Nanoks' Whimsies
March 2016, we are featuring an online exhibit of paintings by Nancy Tuuk Davis, a GrandRapids MI resident and native. We have had a show here at the studio a few years ago and
now we would like to share with you some of Nancy's latest paintings. More of her work can
be viewed at nanok'swhimsies.blogspot.com/

Nanok's Whimsies are painted in oil on canvas or board. They are born of imagination,
memories, dreams and creative impulses. Any combination of these channels will initiate a
'whimsey' which takes days or only a few hours to paint. In its final state, a whimsy will be
any size, but certainly colorful, deserving and happy! It is signed Nanok, the artist's 'nom
d'artiste' a Kurdish nickname for little piece of bread.
Nanok's paintings are for sale. Please email Chantal, chantal@merizonstudio.com or call at
616-485-5752 for more information.

Branching Off, the recent paintings by CHARLES A. LARUE
2013, oil on hard board, 20" x 16" |
Merizon Studio presents “Branching Off,” an exhibit of recent paintings by local artist, Charles LaRue. LaRue graduated in 1982 with a degree in Illustration and Design from Kendall School of Design. His work has been exhibited in various Grand Rapids galleries, including MercuryHead, Mattie & Flynn, Hefner Galleries Ltd, Bergsma Gallery and Pepper Moon.
LaRue has participated in numerous competitions and exhibitions where he has won awards both locally and nationally. His work can also be found in many private, corporate, and public collections in West Michigan and beyond.
“I am delighted to have this exhibit at Merizon Studio, where the modern master artist, Armand Merizon, lived and created so many of his mind-bending powerful works. I am also excited to be presenting a body of work that is very focused in scope. This showcase of my recent work reveals a thematic unity.”
Merizon Studio began as a picture framing studio located in the former studio of the late renowned artist, Armand Merizon, and has evolved to include a gallery space in the artist’s farmhouse home. Merizon Studio has had the pleasure of hosting many local artists over the past two years and looks forward to continuing this effort for years to come.
A reception for Charles LaRue’s “Branching Off” exhibit will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 4 to 9 pm. The show will run through November 17, 2013.
Merizon Studio is located at 9087 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Caledonia, MI, 49316.

THE WEST MICHIGAN 8
The West Michigan Eight is comprised of local artists: Larry Blovits, Jack Brouwer, Carl Forslund, Collin Fry, Jim Markle, Jon McDonald, the late Armand Merizon, and Chris Stoffel Overvoorde. In 2006, the Muskegon museum of Art displayed over 40 works of these artists, and dubbed them the West Michigan Eight. The name is a play on the Group of Seven, or Algonquin School, who consisted of seven artists who dedicated themselves to a new form of landscape art in the 1920's and 30's. They were very influential and gained widespread renown.
